Dough Hesse's recent piece in The Chronicle of Higher Eduaction titled "We Know What Works in Teaching Composition" is fantasticly informative and succinct response to Joe Teller's "Are We Teaching Composition all Wrong?" While Teller grumbles the same old complaints about "...students can't even write a decent sentence" without refering to or even considering the theory and research that goes into effective pedagogical practices, Hesse's delves into a contextualized exploration of what effective and informed writing teachers across the disciplines do, how they do it, and why they do it that way. Bravo, Doug! |
